Legend has it that the waters of La Toja Island were discovered by mere coincidence, when a monk abandoned his sick donkey on the island to spend his final days. When he returned to the island some time later, he was surprised to find the animal healthy, happy and with shiny hair, after having rolled around in the islands waters for all the time his owner was away. This story started to spread by word of mouth among the local people, awakening interest in these unique waters and giving La Toja Island the fame it has today. In 1969
Hotel Louxo La Toja was first opened, sharing the name by which the island is also known, Illa Louxo. The hotel is located in this setting, one of the most beautiful places in Galicia, making it the ideal destination to discover not only all corners of La Toja Island, but also the Rías Baixas region and the charm of the town of O Grove and its people.
